The U.Dance Ensemble was the first youth dance company of its kind with young dancers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland between the ages of 16 and 21 years*. The company was directed by the internationally-acclaimed choreographer Hofesh Shechter.
The U.Dance Ensemble was formed at the end of 2011 after national auditions. The 19 selected dancers from all UK countries met during three residential rehearsal periods since January 2012 during which they were led by Hofesh Shechter in the creation of a new dance piece. This 12-minute long piece called TANK formed a key highlight of the U.Dance 2012 festival at Southbank Centre in London, where it was premiered as part of a varied programme of exceptional youth dance work from across the UK.
The Ensemble have since performed in Wales.

The U.Dance Ensemble was managed by Youth Dance England, in partnership with YDance (Scottish Youth Dance), National Youth Dance Wales, DU Dance (based in Northern Ireland) and Southbank Centre. This partnership was set-up to bring dancers from across the UK together under the U.Dance banner.
